Sense of TASTE..........
The children also used photos of fruits and vegetable to create a fruity collage. They then added watercolour paint to make their pictures more creative.
The children used tasty fruits to print with. During the next lesson they will use chalks to add interest to their prints.
Being creative
The following lesson the children used their shaving foam prints and the paper they had explored the foam on to make a frame for their picture - they then added ink to the picture to make it look even better.
Sense of TOUCH..................
In fact the children used many of their senses for this activity. They had to PRESS very hard on the can to squirt out lots of shaving foam - which was quite SMELLY, they then used their EYES and HANDS to spread the shaving foam around, after this they squirted coloured inks onto the shaving foam and then dragged a fork through the foam to mix the ink and create swirly patterns. They then PUSHED a piece of paper onto the foam and PRESSED all over so that the paper made contact with the ink. After PEELING the paper off they scraped off the foam and were left with a beautiful design. Then the children got to really use their sense of touch and explored the foam with their HANDS.
Sense of SMELL.............
After looking at a sculpture of a nose called "Nose" by artist Will Davies we discussed just what a nose does. All the children immediately knew that we use our nose to smell things, after a while a few remembered that we can also breathe through our nose and some children mentioned how if we get sick we might just need to blow our runny nose! Each class was then split into 2 group and everyone helped me or Ms. Irene to make smelly play dough, the children chose whether they wanted to add cinnamon or ginger to their play dough. After making the play dough they used the dough to make a sculpture of a nose, they were allowed to stick their fingers up their nose (not their real nose of course) to make the nostrils. I hope you like the smelly noses we made. the children took their play dough home to practice their sculpting.
Sense of HEARING........
While listening to Yellow by Cold Play the children painted how the music made them feel. It was fascinating to see some paintings appear with patterns that seemed to match the music while others were painted moving the brush to the rhythm. When the children had finished their paintings they used glitter glue to add detail and interest
The SENSES
The KG1 children have begun their first unit if Inquiry -
Transdisciplinary Theme - Who We Are
Central Idea - We use our senses to find out about ourselves, each other and the environment.
In art lessons we will make many links with the children's discoveries in class and their creations and explorations in the art room.

A Collage of Lines
Today the children were introduced to a new word - collage. They learnt that to make a collage they need to cut and stick. The used scissors to cut different lines and then stuck the paper onto a page in their books. they also used ribbon to make lines - some twisting and curling the ribbon into different shapes. Then to make their collage even more creative they painted the white paper.
Larry the Line
The children have been looking at different types of lines that are used in art. We read a poem with different actions about a snake called Larry. Larry can make all sorts of lines with his body. After this the children drew different types of lines in the new art portfolios and then added lines with paint too.
Art Portfolios
The children have painted the cover for their new art portfolios this week. They used watercolour paints and painted around a circle that was tacked onto a piece of paper. After their picture was dry Ms. Emma wrote their name and class
