Faces - with shapes
After learning all about different shapes the children created their face with shapes and they learnt what a COLLAGE is.
Shapes
PK are going to use shapes to create images of their faces and their bodies. To begin we looked at the names of the more common shapes - square, rectangle, circle and triangle and after listening to a lovely shape song they made a shape collage. they then decorated their collage with inks.
WHO WE ARE
Pre K have just begun their first Unit of Inquiry.
Central Idea: What we look like and what we can do with our bodies is part of what makes us human.
In their art lessons they will be looking at their faces and bodies and be using different materials to represent them. This week we looked at the face, we sang songs and talked about the different features - eyes, nose, mouth, ears, chin and cheeks. The children then drew a face and added watercolour paint to their pictures.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar became............................................................................................ a Beautiful Butterfly
We revisited the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, all the children remembered that the caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly. They created some beautiful butterflies of their own using pen, ink and collage techniques. They remembered the types of lines Larry could make and used this knowledge to help them draw their butterfly wings.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
We continued to use different tools to create artwork in this week's lesson. After listening to the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle the children created their own caterpillar pictures, they used dabbers for the ground and rollers for the sky. They printed the caterpillar's body with marshmallows and used a glue stick to add the details. The pictures looked fantastic and the children really enjoyed experimenting with different ways to make marks.
Painting Lines
Today the children were introduced to Larry the Line - as snake that can make different lines with his body. We said a poem all about Larry using our hands to show different types of lines. The children then used the 3 primary colours and finger paint to create a painting of lines. when they had finished their finger painting they had the opportunity to use various tools and different mateials to make more lines and marks
Art Portfolios |
Pre K have been creating the cover for their art portfolio. This large A3 sized art book will be a place to collect all of their 2D art work this year. At the end of their time in Pre K they will take their book home and share their year of creativity with their families.
Each class created a cover using many different tools but each class had a different colour. They learned about colour first by listening to this story - "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh |
Looking at different mark makers
In their first art lesson the children used different tools to make many marks in many different colours.
